Onne Community Youths Raze Shrines in Rivers Over Alleged Occult Practices

In a decisive move to combat what they described as 'demonic and ritual activities,' a collective of young people from Onne community, situated within the Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, recently undertook the destruction of several shrines in their locality. The youths, operating under the guidance of Comrade Gift Aken and Pastor Arun Ejor, carried out the operation on Monday, August 17, 2026.
Among the structures targeted and subsequently destroyed was a shrine reportedly linked to a woman identified as Ezewanyi, whom the youths have accused of engaging in traditional rituals for many years. Other suspected shrines within the area were also dismantled during the raid.
The youth coalition stated that their drastic action was driven by a commitment to ensure that no shrines allegedly associated with harmful or occult practices would continue to operate within the bounds of Onne community.
