What we know: Kano Magistrate Remands Man for Allegedly Stealing Mosque Shoes

A Magistrate's Court in Kano has ordered the remand of Muhammad Najib Rimin Kebe in a correctional facility, following accusations that he stole shoes from the mosque situated within the Norman's Land Court premises. Mr. Rimin Kebe was brought before Magistrate Dayyabu Jamilu Hamza by the police, facing charges that include trespass and the theft of footwear from the religious site.
During the court proceedings, Adam Salisu Tarauni was tasked with reading the charges to the defendant. After the charges were formally presented, the court issued an order for Mr. Rimin Kebe to be held in a correctional facility. The case has been adjourned, with further hearing scheduled for a future date, specifically August 28, 2026.
Investigations revealed that the defendant is alleged to have repeatedly visited the mosque located inside the court complex, where he purportedly engaged in stealing shoes belonging to worshippers. Several individuals, including court staff, police officers, personnel from the correctional service, and members of the public, had reportedly filed complaints about recurring incidents of shoe theft at the mosque.
