Enugu Police Nab 26-Year-Old Armed Robbery Suspect with Locally-Made Pistol

The Enugu State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against armed robbery with the arrest of a 26-year-old suspect. The arrest was made possible by a tip-off from a concerned citizen in Obollo Etiti, Udenu Local Government Area, who alerted the police about the suspicious activities of the suspect, Chekwube Agbo. On August 10, 2026, police operatives responded to the information and apprehended Agbo at a hotel where he had gone to secure accommodation. Upon searching his bag, the police recovered a locally-made pistol and one live cartridge. According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, 'the suspect's bag was searched, leading to the recovery of the locally made pistol and live cartridge. The suspect was immediately arrested and taken into custody alongside the recovered exhibits.' During preliminary interrogation, Agbo confessed to being a member of an armed robbery syndicate that targets Point-of-Sale (POS) operators, dispossessing them of their valuables. He also revealed that other members of the gang had fled the area before the police arrived. The police are currently investigating the matter to track down the fleeing suspects, while Agbo will soon be arraigned in court. The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Giwa, has commended the resident who alerted the police, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in preventing crime. He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information on suspicious persons and activities, assuring residents that the command remains committed to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
