Fridge Hideout Foils Dean Foord's Escape from Justice for Abusive Crimes

Dean Foord, a 33-year-old man, has been handed a three-year prison sentence for a sustained campaign of domestic abuse against his former partner. The court heard at Canterbury Crown Court that Foord subjected his victim in Rochester, Kent, to months of physical and psychological torment, which included isolating her from loved ones and even forcing her to mimic a dog's bark. His conviction followed a six-month period where he exerted extensive control over the woman's life.
Evidence presented in court detailed how Foord restricted nearly every facet of the woman's existence. He barred her from communicating with friends and family, monitored her social media activity, and demanded she seek his permission before leaving their residence. Furthermore, he denied her the right to own a mobile phone, deliberately destroying any device she managed to acquire. On one occasion, he compelled her to sell her phone to settle one of his drug-related debts.
The court was also informed of numerous physical assaults, including dragging the victim by her neck, pushing her to the ground, and repeatedly banging her head against the floor. He once locked her in a room, forcing her to bark like a dog before granting her release. Prosecutors highlighted that Foord squandered the victim's finances on gambling, illicit drugs, alcohol, and scratch cards.
In another disturbing incident, Foord recorded himself brandishing a knife and threatening to take the woman's life. He also threw a bucket of dirty water over her. Law enforcement officers apprehended Foord at his home in December 2025, discovering him attempting to evade capture by hiding inside a refrigerator. Body-worn camera footage showed him repeatedly pleading with officers to "be nice" due to a claimed broken foot. Officers instructed him to exit the fridge before taking him into custody.
Despite denying the charges, Foord was found guilty of actual bodily harm, criminal damage, threats to kill, common assault, controlling and coercive behaviour, and possession of cocaine. Following the sentencing, Police Constable George Fisher characterized Foord as "a violent bully" who employed fear, aggression, and intimidation to dominate his victim's life. Constable Fisher commended the victim for her immense courage in coming forward and assisting in securing the conviction.
