Son Allegedly Hacks Retired Captain to Death Over Property Will in Rivers

Authorities in Rivers State have taken into custody a middle-aged individual following the alleged murder of his father, retired Marine Captain David Nwoke. The tragic incident, reportedly stemming from a property dispute, occurred on Sunday morning, July 5, at Oro Ekpo Estate, Ada George, within the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that Captain Nwoke had made arrangements to move back to his ancestral home in the South-East. He had gathered his children to communicate his relocation plans and to share out some of his assets. During this meeting, the son born to his second wife reportedly requested one of his father's vehicles, a plea which was turned down. This rejection is said to have infuriated the son, leading him to purportedly conspire to end his father's life.
Community residents recounted that on the fateful day, Captain Nwoke had completed his routine morning exercise and returned home. As he was about to step into his room to get ready for the day, the alleged assailant reportedly ambushed him, launching a series of machete blows that inflicted fatal wounds.
The quick thinking of the housemaid, who immediately raised an alarm, led to neighbours being notified. They, in turn, promptly informed officers at the Rumuokpani Police Division. SP Agabe Blessing, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, verified the occurrence, stating that an investigation is currently underway. She assured that once the inquiry is complete, the suspect will face charges in court.
