A Benue State family has formally announced the passing of two young children who tragically lost their lives after allegedly being set on fire by their father's romantic partner. The devastating incident unfolded in the Kaffe area of Zaki-Biam, located within the Ukum Local Government Area of the state.

Reports indicate that the suspect, identified as Mbayegh, is accused of setting ablaze Precious and Seember, the two children, following a minor disagreement with their father. The horrific event occurred in the early hours of Monday, July 6, 2026.

Community sources revealed that Mbayegh had visited the residence of her lover, Aondoyima Ierkwagh. It was gathered that Ierkwagh reportedly refused to allow her to stay, insisting she depart despite her repeated entreaties. Angered by his stance, the woman allegedly declined to leave the premises.

A community source speculated, "She perhaps thought that her man, Aondoyima Ierkwagh, had brought in another woman, which angered her." The same source further disclosed that Ierkwagh, whose wife was away in a Taraba State village for farming, had secured his two daughters inside a round hut before retiring to another hut himself.

"At about midnight, the distraught woman, who was suspecting that the other woman was in the hut, allegedly set the hut where the two daughters were sleeping ablaze, and they were burnt beyond recognition," the source added, detailing the tragic end for Precious and Seember.
