Minister Musa to Troops: No Waiting for Orders Against Terrorists

Nigeria's Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), has issued a strong warning to security operatives involved in anti-terrorism and banditry campaigns, stating that any officer who delays engaging terrorists while awaiting commands will be considered a terrorist.
Speaking on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, during the official launch of 62 armoured vehicles and over 300 motorcycles acquired by the Sokoto State Government for security agencies, General Musa stressed that troops must take decisive action against criminal elements, strictly adhering to the rules of engagement. "Anybody who refuses to shoot a terrorist in the name of waiting for an order, we will treat him like a bandit," the Minister declared.
Furthermore, Musa cautioned security personnel against harassing or extorting members of the public. He highlighted that their primary role is to safeguard law-abiding citizens, not to intimidate them. He called on them to uphold professionalism, discipline, and accountability throughout their duties.
The Minister lauded the acquisition of these security assets, describing it as a significant boost to the state's security infrastructure. He explained that the new vehicles and motorcycles would improve the mobility and operational capacity of security agencies in tackling banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes. Musa acknowledged the constantly changing nature of the nation's security challenges, noting how terrorists and other criminal groups adapt their strategies and exploit challenging terrains. He concluded by emphasizing that the response of security agencies must also evolve through enhanced mobility, intelligence-driven operations, and effective coordination.
