Florida Walmart Parking Row Turns Deadly: Woman Shoots Army Veteran

A tragic incident unfolded outside a Walmart supercenter in North Lauderdale, Florida, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, when a verbal disagreement over a parking space escalated into a fatal shooting. Bart Diguglielmo, a 62-year-old retired Staff Sergeant who honorably served in the U.S. Army, was killed following the altercation.
According to reports from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the deadly confrontation occurred just before 12:30 p.m. Authorities revealed that Mr. Diguglielmo and an unidentified woman became embroiled in a heated argument concerning a parking spot, which ultimately led to the shooting. The woman involved has since informed investigators that she acted in self-defense.
Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted the woman becoming visibly distressed and hysterical after the incident, with her screams reportedly heard continuously by bystanders immediately after the gunshots. Social media footage captured the intense moments leading up to the fatal shot. The video shows a woman, dressed in a white shirt, exiting her vehicle with a firearm already in hand. She is seen exchanging words with Mr. Diguglielmo, who was in a gray shirt, as he approached her. Both individuals were observed repeatedly pointing at each other during the heated exchange.
At one point in the recording, Mr. Diguglielmo raised both his arms while standing in an empty parking space. The footage then shows him following the woman around another parked car, even as she kept the firearm aimed in his direction. A single gunshot is heard, after which Mr. Diguglielmo collapsed to the ground. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead a few hours later.
Mr. Diguglielmo, a resident of Lauderhill, Florida, originally hailed from Hammonton, New Jersey. His sister, whose name was not disclosed, described him as a distinguished military veteran who served as a combat nurse, combat medic, and tactical communications expert during Operation Desert Storm. After his military career, he transitioned to working as a professional nurse before his retirement. His sister further characterized him as a peaceful Christian man, incapable of intentionally harming anyone.
The Broward Sheriff's Office has refrained from releasing the name of the female shooter as the investigation is still active. Upon the conclusion of the initial police inquiry, the Broward County State Attorney’s Office will undertake a review of all evidence, including the self-defense claim, to determine whether criminal charges will be formally filed against her.
