Nigerian Family Mourns 4-Year-Old Daughter's Tragic Loss in Canada Accident

Authorities in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, have launched an inquiry into a fatal road accident involving a four-year-old Nigerian child, identified as Rayna Chiziterem Okoli. The tragic incident unfolded on Sunday, June 14, 2026, within a northern residential district of the city.
Around 5:15 p.m., Rayna was with her mother, traversing a parking facility situated near 66 Street and 170 Avenue, specifically in the McConachie locality. Reports indicate that the young girl unexpectedly separated from her mother, darting onto 66 Street where she was subsequently struck by a Jeep vehicle. According to law enforcement, individuals nearby promptly rendered assistance and contacted emergency medical services.
Despite being rushed to the Stollery Children's Hospital, the four-year-old succumbed to her injuries. The 23-year-old driver of the Jeep remained at the scene, and preliminary police findings suggest that neither excessive speed nor driver impairment contributed to the crash. The Major Collision team of the Edmonton police force has taken charge of the ongoing investigation.
Those close to Rayna remember her as an effervescent, cheerful, and profoundly treasured child, whose presence illuminated the lives of all she encountered. Her untimely demise has plunged her family into profound grief. In addition to grappling with immense emotional sorrow, the family is contending with the unforeseen financial burden associated with funeral and memorial arrangements. They have extended an appeal for assistance to friends, community members, and sympathizers during this trying period.
A GoFundMe campaign initiated by a family member to gather contributions for the funeral has so far collected $4,925 towards a $20,000 CAD target. The statement on the fundraising page reads:
