US Lawmaker Raises Alarm Over Persistent Christian Killings in Plateau

United States Representative Anna Paulina has voiced serious apprehension regarding the escalating security challenges in Plateau State. She characterized the situation as a relentless wave of assaults and fatalities targeting Christian populations across various communities within the state, attributing these acts to Fulani ethnic militia terr*rists and Islamist extremists.

The allegations were made public by the US lawmaker via a statement shared on her verified X account on Friday, September 25. Paulina directly accused both the Plateau State and the federal governments of insufficient action to safeguard Christians from these violent incursions. Her social media post, titled “What is happening in Nigeria right now?”, expressed profound distress that thousands of Christians in Plateau face an existential threat while Nigerian security forces appear to be struggling to contain the crisis.

Paulina’s statement highlighted the severity of the situation, noting: “Hundreds of Fulani ethnic militia terr*rists descended on Christian communities across Plateau State. Thousands of civilians are under mortal threat while the Nigerian Army and security forces struggle to hold the line.”

She further elaborated that these widespread attacks were preceded by a series of brutal incidents specifically targeting Christians and other civilians in the affected regions. As examples, Paulina cited the tragic killing of a pastor and his church secretary, who were shot dead en route to their place of worship. In another incident, five Christians were ambushed while travelling in a vehicle.

The lawmaker detailed more acts of violence, stating: “A civilian guard was killed outside his own home. A man and his son were beaten and left in critical condition.” She concluded by alleging that security agencies consistently disregard warnings and security intelligence issued prior to these attacks, posing a critical question as to why this pattern persists.
