Tragedy in Plateau: Gunmen Kill Nine Bus Passengers

A tragic incident unfolded at Dungus Junction in the Kuru community, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, where at least nine individuals lost their lives after gunmen ambushed a commercial bus. The vehicle, which was en route to Jos, had reportedly paused at the junction to allow some passengers to alight when the assailants launched their attack.
Eyewitness accounts and photographic evidence from the scene depicted the brutal nature of the assault, with the bus heavily riddled with bullets and stained with blood. Among the nine confirmed fatalities was Ibrahim, the bus driver, who was a resident of Bukuru. Also reported to be from Bukuru were a fish vendor and an orange seller, while the remaining six victims were identified as residents of Kuru. A member of Operation Rainbow was also among those tragically killed.
Lawan Suleiman, a neighbour and former teacher of the deceased driver, Ibrahim, corroborated the grim details of the event. He stated that the attack occurred while the bus was stationary. Suleiman shared, “The driver is Ibrahim and he was my student. Three of them are from our community here in Bukuru. Their bodies have been deposited at the hospital. But relatives are preparing to collect them for burial.”
Further confirmation came from Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM). Tengwong recounted that the victims were passengers on their way to Jos when their vehicle was targeted by the attackers. He noted, “The incident happened around 9.40p.m. The victims were all passengers travelling to Jos when the terr*rists opened fire on the vehicle. Among those k!lled was a member of Operation Rainbow. It is a very sad development and we lament the loss of lives.” He added that some passengers who sustained gunshot wounds were rushed to medical facilities, where some later succumbed to their injuries.
Reports indicate that only one passenger managed to survive the horrific ambush and has since granted an interview regarding the ordeal.
