Key Terr*rist Lieutenant Neutralized in Katsina; Weapons Recovered

A significant blow has been dealt to terr*rist networks in Katsina State as Nigerian Army troops from the 17 Brigade, supported by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) Tactical Team, successfully eliminated 'Smally,' a known lieutenant to notorious terr*rist commander Kachalla Muhammed Filani. This development occurred during a recent clearance operation conducted within the Matazu Local Government Area. The Joint Task Force (NorthWest) Operation FANSAN YAMMA confirmed this through its Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, in a statement released on August 30, 2026.

The operation, detailed in the official statement, commenced around 11:30 a.m. on August 29. Forces swept through the general areas of Farin Tafki, Maharba Adua, and Soro Daya. During their advance in Farin Tafki, military personnel faced strong opposition from armed terr*rists, leading to an intense gun battle.

The statement highlighted the continuous offensive by “Troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA against terr*rists in Katsina State, neutralising a key terr*rist lieutenant and recovering machine guns, arms, ammunition and other items during ongoing clearance operations on 29 August 2026.”

Specifically, Sector 2 troops, during their clearance patrols in known terr*rist hideouts within Matazu LGA, were met with significant resistance. However, the military responded with overwhelming firepower, successfully dislodging the terr*rists who then fled the scene. Subsequent search and exploitation of the area confirmed the elimination of SMALLY, identified as a key subordinate to the infamous terr*rist figure, Kachalla Muhammadu Filani. Furthermore, the operation yielded substantial recoveries: three machine guns, two AK-47 rifles, eleven magazines, 180 rounds of ammunition, and six motorcycles, which were reportedly used by the terr*rists for their illicit activities.

This successful operation is integral to Operation FANSAN YAMMA's broader strategy to maintain relentless pressure on terr*rist groups and dismantle their operational infrastructure throughout the Joint Operations Area. The military reiterated its commitment, stating: “Troops remain resolute in taking the fight to the terr*rists, denying them freedom of action and creating conditions for the restoration of lasting peace and security across affected communities.”
