Malian Midfielder Bissouma Switches from Tottenham to Ajax

Malian international midfielder, Yves Bissouma, has officially completed a move to Dutch club Ajax, securing an initial contract that will keep him with the team until the close of the current season. The 30-year-old defensive linchpin became a free agent in June after his release from Tottenham. His new agreement with Ajax includes an option to extend his stay for an additional twelve months, a detail confirmed by BBC Sport on Wednesday.

Jordi Cruyff, Ajax's technical director, revealed that discussions with Bissouma had been ongoing since August. Cruyff expressed optimism about the acquisition, stating, “We have brought in an experienced player who knows what it takes to perform at the highest level. He is capable of playing in several positions, and we hope he will be available for selection as soon as possible.”

Bissouma's tenure at Tottenham began in 2022 when he transferred from Brighton. During his time with the North London club, he amassed 111 appearances. Notably, in August 2025, then-Tottenham manager Thomas Frank excluded Bissouma from the squad for the UEFA Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain, citing persistent punctuality issues. In his final season with Spurs, Bissouma featured in 11 Premier League matches, as the club finished 17th for the second consecutive season. This transfer to Ajax offers the talented midfielder a crucial opportunity to re-establish himself with regular playing time and further his career in the Netherlands.
