One Killed, Six Injured as Gunmen Attack Mexico Football Match

A football match in San Francisco del Rincón, Guanajuato State, Mexico, tragically ended with one fatality and six people wounded after gunmen opened fire during the game. The assailants, who reportedly arrived on a motorbike, rode up to the touchline and began shooting into the crowd of spectators and players. This horrifying incident occurred around 2:40 pm on Sunday, September 13, causing immediate pandemonium as fans and players scattered for safety. The chaos was partly captured by a witness on a mobile phone.

Seven individuals were hit during the attack, with six currently receiving medical attention in the hospital. Sadly, one of the victims later succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment. Local police confirmed that relatives of the wounded transported them away from the scene themselves, leading to the abandonment of the match. The deceased has since been identified as 25-year-old Julio César, a food vendor. Among those injured, Israel, also 25, and Christian Antonio were named.

According to a municipal officer present at the scene, the gunmen appeared to specifically target "two people," with others becoming "collateral victims" as they attempted to flee. The Guanajuato state prosecutor's office has initiated a murder investigation and is actively searching for the perpetrators. The city council has also committed to providing assistance to the injured and their families, pledging full cooperation with the ongoing police inquiry.
