Injury Scare for Millwall as Femi Azeez limps off in Season Opener

Millwall's opening day victory over Bristol City in the Championship has been overshadowed by an injury to their key player, Femi Azeez. The 25-year-old winger, who had a stellar 2025/26 campaign with 11 goals and seven assists in 37 league appearances, was forced off the pitch after just 30 minutes due to a hamstring problem. Azeez, who started the match at Ashton Gate Stadium, complained of discomfort in his hamstring and was promptly replaced by Kyrell Lisbie. According to Millwall manager Alex Neil, the extent of the injury is still unknown, and the club will have to wait to determine its severity. As quoted by Southwark News, Neil stated, 'He just says he felt something in his hamstring. We're hoping that it's not going to be anything significant. I don't think it is at this stage from speaking to him.' Azeez's injury is a concern for Millwall, especially given his impressive form last season, which earned him a place in the Championship Team of the Season and a first senior Nigeria call-up. He also made a notable impact with the Super Eagles, scoring twice against Zimbabwe and providing an assist in Nigeria's 3-0 victory over Jamaica in the 2026 Unity Cup final. With interest from Hull City and a potential move to the Premier League on the horizon, Azeez will now await further assessment of his hamstring problem, and Millwall will hope the injury is not serious enough to keep him out for an extended period.
