As the summer transfer window nears its close, Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has emerged as a target for English Football League Championship clubs Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers. According to reports from Sports Illustrated, as cited by PUNCH Sports Extra, Okonkwo's current club, Wrexham, may be forced to consider offers for the player, given his position in the goalkeeping pecking order and his contract situation. With Anthony Patterson and Danny Ward ahead of him, Okonkwo finds himself as the third choice at the Racecourse Ground, following Wrexham's recent acquisition of Patterson from Sunderland. Okonkwo initially joined Wrexham on a loan deal during the 2023/24 season before signing a permanent contract with the club. Prior to his move to Wrexham, Okonkwo spent 15 years at Arsenal, joining the London club at the age of eight. During his time at Wrexham, Okonkwo played a crucial role in the team's back-to-back promotions from League Two to the Championship, keeping 47 clean sheets in 121 appearances while conceding 127 goals. On the international stage, Okonkwo was part of the Nigerian team that won the 2026 Unity Cup, where he kept clean sheets in victories over Zimbabwe and Jamaica. With Okonkwo in the final year of his contract, Wrexham faces the possibility of losing him for free if he is not sold before the current transfer window or the January window closes.
