As the new football season draws near and the summer transfer window remains active, Planet Football recently published a Saturday ranking of the 20 current Premier League teams, based on the largest single transfer fee each club has ever received for a player.

At number 20, we have Coventry City, who secured £17.5 million from the transfer of Viktor Gyökeres. The club recorded a significant financial gain when the Swedish forward moved to Sporting in 2023. Before his departure for Portugal, Gyökeres had netted 21 goals in the Championship. He subsequently established himself as a highly effective attacker in Europe, bagging 29 goals in his debut season with Sporting and an impressive 39 in his sophomore year.

Hull City occupies the 19th spot with Jarrod Bowen's £22 million transfer. West Ham initially paid Hull £18 million for the player, with the total sum eventually rising to approximately £22 million due to additional clauses linked to performance. Bowen has since become a key figure for West Ham, making this transaction a beneficial one for Hull City.

Sunderland comes in at 18th place, having sold Jobe Bellingham for £27 million. The young midfielder emulated his elder sibling, Jude, by also making a transfer to Borussia Dortmund. Bellingham honed his skills effectively at Sunderland prior to his switch to Germany, where he is consistently enhancing his standing in the football world.

Ipswich Town is ranked 17th, with Omari Hutchinson's transfer fetching £37.5 million. Following their demotion from the Premier League, Ipswich saw the departure of several skilled players. While Liam Delap’s move to Chelsea garnered £30 million, this amount was exceeded by the £37.5 million Nottingham Forest paid for winger Omari Hutchinson. Though Hutchinson, aged 22, has not yet consistently displayed his peak performance, he possesses ample time to validate the significant outlay.

Arsenal holds the 16th position, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's £40 million transfer to Liverpool standing as their highest-ever player sale. Historically, the Gunners have not been particularly renowned for securing massive transfer fees when players leave. However, this trend might shift as the market value of their current squad continues to appreciate.

Leeds United is 15th on the list, having received £49 million for Raphinha. The Brazilian's transfer to Barcelona marked a record-breaking sale for Leeds United. Before moving to Spain, Raphinha had solidified his position as one of Leeds' most vital offensive players. Since then, he has evolved into a prominent global attacker and a crucial asset for Barcelona.

Coming in at 14th, Fulham earned £50 million from the sale of Aleksandar Mitrović. The London club capitalized significantly when the Serbian striker transferred to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. Mitrović was prolific, scoring 43 goals during Fulham’s promotion season, and followed it up with 14 goals in their return to the Premier League. Despite Fulham’s desire to retain their prolific forward, the substantial offer was ultimately too compelling to decline.

Bournemouth is positioned 13th, having secured £64 million for Antoine Semenyo. Semenyo's impressive displays made his exit from Bournemouth highly probable due to a release clause in his contract. Manchester City ultimately acquired the forward's services, paying the hefty sum. Semenyo's arrival was part of a significant January recruitment effort, and he is anticipated to be a vital contributor for City.

Crystal Palace ranks 12th, benefiting from Eberechi Eze's £68 million transfer. The attacking midfielder's move to Arsenal generated a considerable sum for the South London club. Eze had been among Palace’s most impactful players, and his sale marked another significant financial transaction for the Eagles.

Brentford secured the 11th spot, receiving £71 million for Bryan Mbeumo's transfer to Manchester United. The Bees originally acquired Mbeumo from French team Troyes in 2019 for approximately £5.8 million, resulting in an enormous profit from the Cameroonian international's sale. His progression serves as a testament to Brentford's effective player recruitment strategy.

At number 10, Everton made £75 million from Romelu Lukaku's transfer. The Belgian striker became Everton’s most expensive player departure when Manchester United paid the substantial fee. During the 2016-17 Premier League season, Lukaku had netted 25 goals, placing him second only to Harry Kane in the top scorers' list. This impressive goal-scoring form persuaded United to make a significant financial commitment to acquire the forward.

Manchester United is 9th on the list, having collected £80 million from Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer in 2009 when he moved to Real Madrid. Real Madrid had previously attempted to sign Ronaldo the summer before, but legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson successfully convinced the Portuguese sensation to stay at Old Trafford for an additional season. Ronaldo ultimately departed after expressing his wish for a fresh challenge, subsequently achieving an astonishing 450 goals in 438 matches for Real Madrid.

Manchester City ranks 8th, receiving £81.5 million from the sale of Julián Álvarez to Atlético Madrid. Despite enjoying considerable game time under manager Pep Guardiola, the Argentine international sought increased appearances in high-profile fixtures. Manchester City ultimately agreed to Atlético’s bid, securing a significant profit from the striker's exit.

Tottenham Hotspur is placed 7th, having earned £85.1 million from Gareth Bale’s transfer.
