Osimhen Open to Arsenal Move Amidst Transfer Buzz

Nigerian international striker Victor Osimhen has fueled speculation about his future at Galatasaray, hinting at a possible departure from the Turkish champions this summer. The 27-year-old forward, who found the net twice in Galatasaray's 2-2 opening-day draw against newly-promoted Corum FK, addressed the ongoing transfer rumours after the game, maintaining a diplomatic stance but not dismissing the possibility of a move to Arsenal.

"There are always rumours during the transfer windows. I will focus on my job. I am focused on my work. We will see and think about what comes next then," Osimhen stated regarding the intense speculation linking him with the Emirates Stadium.

According to reports from the Spanish publication, SPORT, La Liga giants Barcelona were offered the chance to sign the prolific forward but opted to explore other options. This development reportedly clears a path for Arsenal in their pursuit of the Nigerian star, whom Transfermarkt values at over £64 million. Furthermore, Galatasaray is said to have recently turned down a substantial €130 million bid for Osimhen from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, while Arsenal reportedly re-engaged in discussions for a potential transfer.

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side, set to kick off their 2026-27 season on Sunday with the Community Shield clash against Manchester City, managed only 71 Premier League goals last season. The club has so far been unsuccessful in securing key attacking targets like Morgan Rogers, Bradley Barcola, and Julian Alvarez. This leaves their forward line appearing somewhat depleted as the September 1 transfer deadline approaches.

Despite the swirling transfer talk, Osimhen reiterated his dedication to Galatasaray, where he is under contract until June 2029. "It is going to be a tough season. The team is aware of that. I am ready to give everything for this club. This was an important wake-up call. It was a wake-up call for the players too," he remarked.

Following the surprising draw, the Nigeria international took the initiative to apologize to the Galatasaray ultras, feeling responsible for his team's inability to secure maximum points in their season opener. He also urged his teammates to demonstrate a united front and collective response in the upcoming fixtures. "We have to give everything on the pitch. Our fans give us incredible energy, they always support us. We need to reciprocate. We need to gain momentum before the Champions League. We need to fight very well from the very first match," Osimhen added.

Since his move from Napoli, Osimhen has been a formidable force for Galatasaray, scoring 53 goals in 69 appearances. Prior to that, he netted 65 goals in 108 Italian top-flight matches for Napoli. Coach Okan Buruk’s team will next travel to face fellow promoted side Erzurumspor as they seek their first victory of the current campaign.
