The stage is set for an exciting 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, as 16 teams converge on Morocco to compete for the coveted title and a spot in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The tournament, which begins on Sunday, will feature defending champions Nigeria, hosts Morocco, and other top contenders like South Africa and Zambia. Algeria and Senegal will face off in the opening match at the Rabat Olympic Stadium, while Morocco takes on Kenya later in the day. The competition will serve as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the four semi-finalists automatically qualifying for the World Cup. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals, and the tournament will conclude on August 16 with the final match. Nigeria, seeking an 11th continental crown, will begin their title defence on Tuesday against Malawi in Group C. The Super Falcons are grouped with Zambia, Egypt, and tournament debutants Malawi. Morocco is hosting the tournament for the third consecutive time, with matches to be played across five stadiums in Rabat and Casablanca. The 34-match tournament promises to be an exciting display of women’s football in Africa, with the best teams competing for the top prize.
