Ex-Patriots Super Bowl Winner Jordan Devey Dies by Suicide at 38

Jordan Devey, a former offensive guard in the National Football League and a member of the New England Patriots' Super Bowl XLIX championship squad, has tragically passed away at the age of 38.

His wife, Linsey Devey, made the heartbreaking announcement on Friday via a social media post, a date that would have marked their 15th wedding anniversary. She also shared a link to a GoFundMe campaign, which explicitly stated that Devey's death was by suicide.

In her poignant tribute, Linsey spoke of the beautiful family they built together, including their four children. She wrote, "They have your eyes, freckles, and compassion. You were our hero and our hearts ache in your absence. We love you. We miss you. And as you said in your last words to me, 'we'll talk soon.'"

According to the GoFundMe page, Devey was known for his profound commitment to helping others. He dedicated his time to coaching his children's sports teams and volunteered with student-athletes at their local high school. The page lauded him as a figure "deeply loved by the players who saw him as a mentor, role model, and friend," underscoring his "dedication to serving others."

Devey's professional football career spanned seven seasons in the NFL, during which he participated in 44 regular-season games. He played for several teams, including the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, and Buffalo Bills. While he was part of the Patriots team that lifted the Super Bowl trophy in the 2014 season, he did not feature in the championship game itself. He officially retired from professional football in 2021, having made his final NFL appearance with the Bills the preceding year.

Following his demise, Devey's parents expressed their concerns to Fox 13, calling for increased awareness regarding mental health issues. They also shared their belief that he might have been suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain condition linked to repeated head impacts.
