During Nigeria's 66th Independence Day celebration on Thursday, Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu appealed for enhanced cooperation between the Federal and state administrations. This call was part of his Independence Day address to Sokoto residents, emphasizing the need to effectively counter banditry and various criminal activities plaguing different regions. Governor Aliyu specifically lauded the Federal Government's assistance in the ongoing battle against banditry within Sokoto, stressing that continuous collaboration between these governmental tiers is vital for achieving enduring peace.

Aliyu highlighted the existing robust synergy, stating, “There is a strong synergy between the Sokoto State Government and the Federal Government in our collective commitment towards protecting the lives and property of our people.” He further conveyed his confidence that this ongoing partnership would be instrumental in eradicating insecurity from the state.

The governor detailed his administration's extensive provision of logistical support and essential equipment to bolster the operations of conventional security outfits. Since taking office, the state government has acquired over 200 patrol vehicles, two bulletproof vehicles for the emirate, 100 Buffalo armoured personnel carriers, 200 motorcycles, 3,200 pieces of security hardware, 2,000 bulletproof vests, and 200 night-vision goggles. Additionally, he mentioned the provision of 100 thermal-vision scopes and various other security devices. His government also played a crucial role in ensuring the Nigerian Air Force Base in Sokoto became fully operational and upgraded the Department of State Services' tracking capabilities from 4G to 5G technology.

Aliyu further highlighted the creation of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps, for which 40 Hilux vans and 700 motorcycles were purchased. He also noted that his administration facilitated the construction of a military barracks in Illela and a Police Mobile Barracks in Tara Village, located within Sabon Birni Local Government Area, as part of broader security initiatives.

Reassuring the populace, Governor Aliyu affirmed his government's unwavering dedication to eradicating banditry. He implored residents to actively support the state's efforts aimed at re-establishing peace throughout Sokoto.

In his address, Aliyu also honored Nigeria’s founding fathers, encouraging citizens to emulate their patriotism and sacrifices in nation-building. He acknowledged Nigeria’s journey since independence, noting it has encompassed “many ups and downs” alongside considerable accomplishments. The governor voiced optimism for the nation’s continued advancement, driven by renewed dedication and collective action. He concluded by calling on all Nigerians to offer their continued support, cooperation, and prayers for the nation's leadership, facilitating their effective performance of duties, and extended warm wishes for a happy 66th Independence Anniversary.
