Joint Task Force Frees Ten Hostages in Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara

The Joint Task Force North West, operating under the codename Operation FANSAN YAMMA, successfully secured the release of ten civilians during distinct military interventions conducted across Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, who serves as the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, confirmed these successful missions via a post on X on Thursday. He stated that these operations are integral to the continuous commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring peace within communities throughout the North West region.
Detailing one incident, on August 19, 2026, personnel on patrol within Sokoto State's Isa Local Government Area came under a surprise attack by terrorists. The military personnel reacted promptly, compelling the assailants to retreat from the location. The Joint Task Force reported: “During the encounter, five civilians were rescued and subsequently reunited with their families.” Additionally, two motorcycles left behind by the escaping terrorists were retrieved.
A day prior, on August 18, a separate search-and-rescue mission was executed in Kebbi State's Danko Wasagu Local Government Area. This operation followed actionable intelligence regarding three individuals who had been abducted. All three kidnap victims were successfully liberated, after which they underwent profiling and were transferred to relevant local authorities.
In a parallel development on August 18, troops were deployed in response to reports of terrorist engagements within Zamfara State's Tsafe Local Government Area. The Joint Task Force stated: “The rapid mobilisation of the troops compelled the terrorists to flee the area, abandoning two captives.” These two individuals, who had suffered gunshot injuries during their captivity, received immediate medical attention after being transported to a healthcare facility.
The Joint Task Force further indicated that efforts are currently underway to locate and eliminate the terrorists who escaped. The Theatre Command lauded the troops for their sharp awareness and quick reaction, while also assuring residents of its unwavering resolve to maintain relentless pursuit of terrorist groups throughout the Joint Operations Area. The statement concluded by urging: “Members of the public are encouraged to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces to support ongoing operations and enhance the protection of lives and property.”
