Plateau Governor Mutfwang Assembles Security Chiefs Following Recent Attacks

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, on Wednesday convened a crucial meeting of the State Security Council to thoroughly assess the security landscape across the region. The gathering, which took place at the New Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos, was primarily aimed at enhancing strategies for achieving sustainable peace, safeguarding the lives and properties of residents, and cultivating a secure environment conducive to economic development.

Key attendees at the meeting included the Deputy Governor, the leadership of various security and law enforcement agencies operating within the state, and the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da. Jacob Gyang Buba, among other senior government officials. A statement issued after the deliberations by Dr. Gyang Bere, the Governor's Director of Press and Public Affairs, on Wednesday, revealed that discussions "focused extensively on emerging security threats, recent incidents recorded in some communities, intelligence gathering and sharing, preventive operations, inter-agency coordination, and strategies for safeguarding lives, property and economic activities across Plateau State."

Following the meeting, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, the Commissioner of Police for Plateau State Command, commented that the session formed part of Governor Mutfwang’s continuous evaluation of the security situation and his unwavering commitment to ensuring Plateau State remains peaceful, secure, and welcoming for its citizens, investors, and visitors. He further elaborated that Governor Mutfwang, in his capacity as the Chief Security Officer of the state, periodically brings together the State Security Council to review new developments, identify operational shortcomings, and reinforce existing security measures to effectively counter threats.

CP Faniyan quoted Governor Mutfwang, stating, “His Excellency Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang is the Chief Security Officer of the State, and once in a while, we review the security situation. We assess the security situation in order to take steps to improve on what we already have.” Addressing a specific incident, the commissioner added, “The Mangu case was very unfortunate. We prepared and deployed, but somehow, such incidents still occurred. That is part of why His Excellency called this meeting so that such must not happen again.”

Furthermore, the commissioner disclosed that arrests have been made in connection with some of the significant attacks recorded in the state over the past month. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the identities and roles of other suspected individuals. He clarified that these investigations are being conducted through collaborative efforts with other security agencies, including relevant authorities at the national level, and involve the deployment of technological tools for analyzing available intelligence to support ongoing inquiries.

“We have some arrests; investigation is ongoing. We are not investigating in isolation. We are collaborating with all the other agencies up to the national level. We are still going after some suspects, and we are doing a lot of technological analysis,” CP Faniyan affirmed.

CP Faniyan assured the people of Plateau State that all security agencies have received clear directives from Governor Mutfwang and are committed to working tirelessly and collaboratively to protect lives and property, prevent criminal activities, and respond swiftly to any emerging threats.
