Kano Fire Service Saves Man, Cow From Well Ordeal

A 40-year-old man and his cow were successfully rescued from an old well in Sabon Ruwa Village, Makoda Local Government Area of Kano State, following an incident where the man became trapped while attempting to save his animal. The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the rescue operation.

According to ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer for the Kano State Fire Service, the distress call was received by their Danbatta emergency response unit at approximately 3:22 pm on Wednesday, August 26. He stated that a resident, Ibrahim Jibrin, personally alerted the fire station about a five-year-old cow that had fallen into an abandoned well within the village.

The cow's owner, identified as Badamasi Ibrahim, reportedly entered the well to retrieve his animal but subsequently found himself unable to exit, becoming trapped alongside the cow. "Our personnel immediately rushed to the scene and successfully rescued both the man and the cow alive," Abdullahi confirmed, noting that Badamasi Ibrahim experienced breathing difficulties while confined in the well.

Following the incident, Alhaji Sani Anas, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, issued a public appeal. He cautioned citizens against the dangerous practice of entering or diving into wells, emphasizing the significant risk of serious injury or even fatality. Anas urged residents to promptly contact the fire service or other emergency responders should similar incidents occur.
