Over 300 Shops Incinerated in Midnight Blaze at Oyo Market

A devastating inferno engulfed the bustling Oranyan Market in Ibadan North-East Local Government Area of Oyo State on August 24, destroying an estimated three hundred shops. The destructive blaze, which reportedly commenced around midnight, wreaked havoc across multiple sections of the popular market.

Among the numerous traders whose livelihoods were impacted were those specializing in valuable items like gold, various furniture pieces, and second-hand clothing, alongside many others.

An eyewitness, identified only as Iya Alia, recounted the terrifying incident, stating that the fire started in the dead of night. She noted, “The fire started around midnight. I cannot be specific about that time. Those affected were gold sellers, furniture sellers, second-hand clothes sellers and many others. The shops affected were almost 300.”

Authorities have since brought the fire under control. However, the precise cause of the extensive destruction remains undetermined at this time.
