Out-of-Control Donkey in Germany Injures Three, Jumps Into Van

Full Story
A recent incident in Germany saw a donkey reportedly embark on a biting and kicking rampage, escaping its enclosure alongside a horse before leaping into a van and causing injuries to three individuals. The chaotic event unfolded on Friday, August 21, near a roundabout in Holssel, a town situated south of Cuxhaven. Motorists initially observed the two animals roaming freely and made attempts to secure them.
Reports indicate that the donkey, identified as Freddy, exhibited "very aggressive" behaviour when people tried to intervene. In a bizarre turn, Freddy then jumped into a van, where he proceeded to attack two occupants inside. The victims endured multiple kicks and bites but fortunately sustained only minor injuries, managing to escape the vehicle. Additionally, a 33-year-old woman, who was assisting during the incident, also suffered injuries and required hospital care.
The disturbance concluded with the arrival of Freddy's owner, who successfully brought the animal under control. Following the incident, Freddy was returned to his designated enclosure and secured behind a chain-link fence. German police have stated that "The reason for the animals aggressive reaction is still unclear." Local media outlets have put forward the theory that Freddy's unusual aggression might have stemmed from an attempt to protect the mare that had escaped with him. Veterinary authorities have been informed about the incident, though further details regarding the injured individuals or the precise circumstances behind the donkey's behaviour are yet to be released.
