President Tinubu Expresses Grief Over Demise of Religious Scholar Baba-Ahmed

President Bola Tinubu has conveyed his profound sorrow over the passing of Malam Nafiu Baba-Ahmed, the esteemed Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria. Baba-Ahmed reportedly died in the early hours of Tuesday, prompting a statement from the President later the same day.
The condolence message, released by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, described Baba-Ahmed as a highly respected administrator and a dedicated religious figure. President Tinubu highlighted the deceased's lifelong commitment to the tenets of Islam and the service of Nigeria.
According to the President, Malam Baba-Ahmed was an "impactful leader" who guided the affairs of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria with notable wisdom, foresight, and an unwavering dedication to fostering unity, justice, and peaceful coexistence within the nation.
President Tinubu also reflected on his personal connection with the late scholar, recalling their extensive association, particularly during the lead-up to the 2011 general elections and in subsequent years. He specifically mentioned Baba-Ahmed's invaluable counsel and support during his own 2023 presidential campaign.
Furthermore, the President acknowledged Baba-Ahmed’s critical role in ensuring the Council’s active voice on national matters, promoting deeper understanding among different groups, and advocating for moral rejuvenation and social justice.
In his message, President Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to the President and members of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, the entire Baba-Ahmed family, the government and people of Kaduna State, and the broader Nigerian Muslim Ummah. The President concluded with a prayer, asking Almighty Allah to forgive Baba-Ahmed’s shortcomings, grant him a place in Jannatul Firdaus, and provide his family and the Muslim community with the strength to bear this significant loss.
