Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called upon the state's populace to reject any actions that could disrupt the prevailing peace and stability as the 2027 general elections draw nearer. Governor Yusuf conveyed this important message during his address at the 66th National Independence Anniversary celebration, which took place on Thursday at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium.
He further implored all residents to continue fostering peace, unity, and mutual respect, which are crucial for the state's economic advancement and overall development. "With the 2027 General Election fast approaching, I urge you all to keep upholding peace, unity, and mutual respect. Let us avoid violence and anything that might jeopardize the peace and stability of our beloved state," the Governor stated.
Furthermore, he encouraged both Kano citizens and Nigerians nationwide to persistently pray for the conduct of peaceful, free, fair, and credible elections across the country. Governor Yusuf also took the opportunity to commend all security agencies for their unwavering dedication to maintaining order and safeguarding the lives and properties of the people. He emphasized, "I urge our people to reject violence, division, intolerance and criminality, and to embrace peace, lawful enterprise and responsible citizenship."
The Governor reiterated his administration's steadfast commitment to building on achievements made in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, water supply, security, and human capital development. He affirmed, "Our administration remain committed to consolidating the gains we have made in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, water supply, security and human capital development." He added that his government would continue to collaborate with the Federal Government, local government councils, traditional and religious institutions, the private sector, and development partners to serve the people effectively.
"As we mark this 66th Independence Anniversary, let us renew our faith in Nigeria, uphold peace and unity, and contribute our share towards building a stronger, more prosperous and peaceful nation," Governor Yusuf remarked. He also reaffirmed his government's resolve to enhance cooperation with all security agencies operating within the state, promising additional logistical and operational aid to security formations, particularly the Military, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, and the DSS, especially in vulnerable and frontline communities.
The administration has also intensified grassroots security coordination and focused increased attention on local government areas including Tsanyawa, Ghari, Gwarzo, Shanono, Bagwai, Rogo, Kiru/Bebeji, Karaye, Tudun Wada/Doguwa, and other communities grappling with security challenges. The aim is to protect lives, restore public confidence, and enable residents to return to their farms and normal economic activities.
Addressing the rising issue of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, Governor Yusuf highlighted the decisive measures taken by the state government, including the establishment of the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. He noted that an Executive Order was also issued to bolster efforts against illicit substances, thuggery, and related criminal acts, with positive outcomes already being observed. In a bid to support vulnerable families, the state government has provided thousands of beneficiaries across the state with start-up capital, livestock, skills training, and other forms of assistance. Finally, Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude for the Federal Government's support in critical infrastructure, security, and other developmental initiatives within Kano State.
