FG Designates October 1st as Public Holiday for Independence Festivities

The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, October 1st, a national public holiday. This declaration is to commemorate Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary Celebration across the country.

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, delivered this announcement on behalf of the Federal Government. He extended his warm congratulations to all Nigerians, both within the country and in the diaspora, as the nation observes this significant 66th year of its independence.

Minister Tunji-Ojo highlighted Nigeria's exceptional qualities, asserting that the nation stands as arguably the most prosperous black nation globally. He attributed this distinction to the inherent warmth, welcoming spirit, and love among its people, alongside the abundant wealth found in its human capital and the richness of its land.

Emphasizing the foundational elements for national advancement, the Minister stressed that peace and stability are indispensable conditions for the development of any country. Consequently, he urged Nigerians to draw inspiration from the nation's founding fathers by fostering a deep love for their fatherland. His call was for citizens to work towards building a Nigeria that future generations would be proud to inherit, affirming that "a new Nigeria is achievable."
