Anambra South: PDP Candidate Nwosu Vows Job Creation, Sustainable Empowerment

Prince Samben Nwosu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Anambra South in the forthcoming 2027 general election, has pledged to make job creation, long-term empowerment initiatives, and grassroots community development his primary focus if he secures election. Nwosu, a former organising secretary for the PDP and a past Federal Commissioner at the Public Complaints Commission, articulated these commitments during a Tuesday interaction with journalists at his Nnewi country home.

He outlined a community-centric approach for his proposed legislative tenure, aimed at tackling the socio-economic challenges prevalent across the seven local government areas that constitute the senatorial district. Anambra South encompasses Aguata, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Orumba North, Orumba South, Nnewi North, and Nnewi South Local Government Areas. Nwosu clarified that his pursuit of a Senate seat is driven by a desire to offer quality representation, not personal enrichment.

“My ambition is to secure quality representation for the good people of Anambra South constituency. I am heading to the Red Chambers of the National Assembly to serve, not to amass personal wealth,” he stated. He further added, “Should I be elected, I will usher in a new era of representation for the zone. My mission in the National Assembly is to continue the commendable work initiated by my kinsman, the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, before his untimely passing.”

The PDP candidate revealed that his campaign strategy would involve extensive engagement with residents, particularly the youth, to thoroughly understand their socio-economic needs. “My upcoming campaign will prioritise interacting with the populace, especially young individuals, to discern their socio-economic difficulties, rather than simply parading with sirens,” he noted.

He also committed to establishing an empowerment framework designed to provide lasting economic opportunities for his constituents, contrasting it with what he termed as fleeting assistance often distributed during election periods. Nwosu elaborated, “If elected, I will implement an empowerment model that will sustain my constituents throughout the entire election cycle; avoiding a scenario where voters’ mandates and consciences are bought with meager stipends that last merely a week or less.”

Furthermore, Nwosu promised that each of the seven local government areas within the district would benefit from a distinct signature project under his representation. “Upon election, every LGA in my Senatorial district will have my signature project, ensuring they feel my presence. Any bill or motion I present on the floor of the Senate will be one that directly improves the daily lives and businesses of our people,” he affirmed.

Regarding the 2027 election, the former PDP organising secretary declared his opposition to vote buying and electoral manipulation, urging voters to safeguard their ballots. He expressed confidence that the PDP would leverage its political machinery to ensure votes are properly counted at all polling units within the district. Nwosu also implored voters to reject financial or material inducements from politicians ahead of the polls.

He characterized the 2027 election as distinct from previous ones, asserting that political influence and monetary incentives should not dictate the outcome. “The 2027 Senatorial election in Anambra South is a contest between myself, the PDP, and the people of Anambra South. My background as a former organising secretary of the PDP in Anambra positions me to win as a grassroots mobiliser,” he explained. Nwosu also voiced his belief in his party's strong grassroots structure, downplaying the chances of rival candidates.

“Candidates from APC, APGA, and NDC pose no threat to my aspirations. Beyond my close ties to the grassroots, the PDP remains the only political party with a noticeable presence in virtually every Nigerian household. Therefore, securing and defending the mandate will not be an issue for us,” he asserted. The PDP candidate also critiqued the common practice of lawmakers only returning to their constituencies during election seasons to distribute food items and other temporary aid. He reiterated that his proposed empowerment scheme aims to offer constituents sustainable opportunities throughout the electoral cycle.

Anambra South Senatorial District, one of the three senatorial districts in the state, encompasses seven local government areas, including Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Aguata, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Orumba North, and Orumba South. The district is notable for its significant commercial and industrial activities, particularly around Nnewi, while agriculture, trade, and small businesses continue to be vital sources of livelihood across the region. Against this backdrop, Nwosu stated that his legislative agenda would be geared towards fostering economic opportunities, supporting local businesses, and strengthening grassroots development throughout the district.
