At UN Assembly, Trump Puts Iran on 'Deal or Doom' Crossroads

During his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump revealed he was at a critical juncture regarding Iran's future. The President stated he faced a profound choice: either secure an agreement with Iran that would enable its reconstruction and foster its growth into a significant nation in the Middle East and globally, or opt for its complete destruction.

Trump explicitly outlined the two paths, saying, “I have a big decision to make—will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before, maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East or even the world?” He then posed the alternative: “Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again? Do I drive them into hell with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness or generations?”

Despite these severe pronouncements, President Trump maintained his belief that a resolution could be reached before the US midterm elections scheduled for November. These elections are crucial for his Republican party, which risks losing its majority in Congress, partly attributed to escalating fuel costs linked to ongoing conflicts.

Trump remarked, “I believe we’ll make a deal right after the election because it doesn’t make sense for them not to.” He further commented on Iran's potential strategy, stating, “They’re waiting to see how I do in the midterm election. What they don’t realize is that I’m not running. I did that already, and won in a landslide.”
