Presidency: Tinubu Can Govern Nigeria Globally, No Abuja Presence Needed

The Aso Rock Villa has affirmed President Bola Tinubu's capacity to lead Nigeria irrespective of his geographical location. This clarification came in a press release on Sunday, September 27, from Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy. Onanuga stated unequivocally that the President's executive responsibilities do not necessitate his physical presence within the nation's capital, Abuja, while reassuring citizens about President Tinubu’s robust health.

This official stance emerges amidst increasing public questioning and censure from opposition personalities concerning the President's prolonged absence overseas, following the conclusion of his allotted three-week official vacation. In response to the prevalent apprehension, Mr. Onanuga articulated the administration's position, asserting, "Nigeria’s President is hale and hearty. He has been on a working vacation, which he is perfectly entitled to."

He further emphasized the contemporary reality, stating, "In this digital age, he does not need to be physically present in Abuja to do the work for which he was elected in 2023." To substantiate this, Onanuga highlighted the President's activities, adding, "And we have seen that he has indeed been working, meeting investors in France, most recently facilitating a $7 billion deep-sea port in Ogun Waterside, an initiative of the Ogun State Government." The Special Adviser's comments were also shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on September 27, 2026, reinforcing the message of the President's well-being and continued engagement in national duties from his current location.
