Macon Park Party Turns Bloody: 12 Teenagers Shot After Gunfight

A joyous 18th birthday celebration in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia, USA, took a horrific turn early Sunday morning, September 27, when a park shootout left twelve young people injured. The incident unfolded shortly after midnight at Carolyn Crayton Park.

According to Sheriff David Davis, who addressed the press, a group of youngsters had converged on the park to mark a woman's 18th birthday. This gathering followed their earlier expulsion from a residence that had been rented for the festivities. Subsequently, another group arrived at the park, leading to a confrontation.

Sheriff Davis elaborated on the sequence of events, stating, "Both groups exchanged words, brandished firearms and then began firing at each other." Investigators are currently working to ascertain the connection between the two groups and the underlying cause of the hostilities. Surveillance footage from the park captured the intense gunfight, which reportedly lasted approximately 30 seconds, as attendees scattered in panic.

Responding deputies discovered that several victims had already been transported to a nearby hospital in private vehicles. The injured include one 19-year-old male, four 18-year-old males, five 17-year-old males, and two 18-year-old females. While two individuals are in critical condition, the others are reported to be stable. Sheriff Davis clarified that there is “no indication that any of these individuals who were injured at this time participated in the gunfire.”

As of now, no arrests have been made, though the sheriff revealed that investigators have identified several persons of interest. Authorities have impounded four vehicles used to convey victims to the hospital and an additional three found abandoned at the park. Furthermore, ten witnesses have been interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. Sheriff Davis assured the public of increased police presence in the coming days, stating, “There’s going to be some heavy police presences in some places coming up over the next few days as we make some arrests in this.”

In a separate but equally tragic incident on the same Sunday morning, Detroit police were called to an after-hours strip club where a dispute escalated into gunfire, resulting in three fatalities and four injuries. No immediate arrests were announced in connection with that event either.
