Argungu Emir Gives Royal Backing to Kebbi Governor for 2027 Second Term

The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Mera, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Kebbi State Council of Chiefs, has publicly endorsed Governor Nasir Idris for a second term in office. The monarch cited the governor's impressive development track record and his selfless dedication to the people of Kebbi State as reasons for his support.

The endorsement occurred on Sunday when the Kebbi State Governor’s Media Team, led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, paid a courtesy visit to the Emir's palace in Argungu. This visit forms part of a statewide tour aimed at highlighting the administration's achievements. While acknowledging the apolitical nature of traditional rulers, Emir Mera emphasized the importance of recognizing leaders who have demonstrated tangible results for their constituents.

“Sustainable development in a democratic dispensation can only be achieved if a track record of selfless service is used as a yardstick for electing political leaders,” the Emir stated. He further added, “In fairness and sentiment apart, our Governor is on course, considering the unprecedented development being witnessed in the state across infrastructure, education, security, and economic empowerment programmes. Based on this visibly demonstrated commitment, the Governor deserves a second term for continuity.”

Emir Mera also commended the Media Team's initiative, stressing the necessity of consistent public enlightenment to inform citizens about government policies and successes. He advised the delegation, “Blowing your trumpet must be consistent for public awareness.” Earlier, Commissioner Yakubu explained that their visit was to pay homage and seek royal blessings as the team continues its efforts to publicize the governor’s achievements and foster sustained development across the state.

The Emir offered prayers for divine guidance for the team and encouraged them to maintain their momentum. Governor Idris, affectionately known as Kauran Gwandu, also holds the traditional title of Jigon Kabin Argungu. The media team also engaged with social media practitioners from the Argungu Emirate, covering Argungu, Augie, Arewa, and Dandi Local Government Areas, as part of its broader stakeholder engagement.
