Tinubu Hails Adeleke's Osun Re-election, Says People's Voice Prevailed

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu commended the outcome of the Osun State governorship election. The election, which took place on August 15, saw Governor Ademola Adeleke emerge victorious, securing a second term in office. President Tinubu personally called Governor Adeleke to offer his congratulations, noting that the result was a testament to the confidence the people of Osun State have in their leader. 'I had the pleasure of speaking with Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,' President Tinubu said. He expressed his desire for Governor Adeleke to unite the people of Osun State, promoting growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of their political affiliations. The President also acknowledged the role of other contestants in the election, praising their courage and discipline, which he believes has enriched Nigeria's democratic culture. The election, which was described as peaceful and transparent by President Tinubu, was conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies. Governor Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, won the election with 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who secured 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes. Earlier, Governor Adeleke had thanked President Tinubu for his congratulatory call and reaffirmed his endorsement of the President for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, describing him as a son of Osun State.
