APC Chieftain Begs Osun Voters: Shun Violence in Governorship Election

The Director-General for the Osun West Governorship Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dotun Babayemi, has passionately appealed to residents of Osun State to engage peacefully in the upcoming August 15 governorship election. In a statement released on Sunday by his Media Office, which was obtained in Osogbo, Babayemi implored voters to throw their support behind the APC's governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, promising a period of profound transformation for the state.

Specifically, Babayemi urged both voters and other stakeholders to guarantee a violence-free election, emphasizing the need to prevent any loss of life or destruction of property. He stated, “The task before all of us is to choose a new governor and this we can do peacefully through our votes without maiming, killings or destroying property. This becomes instructive because of the fact that regardless of our political differences, we remain members of the same family bonded by a common heritage called Osun State. The fact remains: elections will come and go, but our state will continue to remain.”

He further highlighted that the financial burden of repairing damages post-election could be immense, a scenario he believes is entirely avoidable if all parties involved refrain from treating the electoral process as a desperate, "do-or-die" contest.

Babayemi confidently assured the public that if elected, the APC candidate would initiate and implement programs truly centered on the people, designed to elevate the state to unprecedented levels of development. “Our candidate, Alhaji Oyebamiji, is ready and rearing to go. With the massive support of the people across the state, I am optimistic that he will triumph and our state will be good for it,” Babayemi affirmed.

In other political news from the region, the Lagos Accord Party has reportedly dismissed claims of endorsing Tinubu, while the Oyinlola-led faction of the PDP in Osun has adopted Bola Oyebamiji for the governorship poll. Furthermore, a Representative has advocated for a single-day election in 2027 and called for amendments to the Electoral Act.

Meanwhile, a three-day, staggered medical outreach, dubbed the ‘Omooba Dotun Babayemi-AMBO Medical Outreach’, concluded on Saturday in Gbongan, which serves as the headquarters of Ayedade Local Government Area. This initiative was organized as a supportive measure for the party's ongoing campaign efforts. The outreach was conducted across three distinct locations: Orile-Owu, Tonkere, and Gbongan, where an estimated 10,000 individuals received complimentary medical services.

Beneficiaries of the outreach received a range of free services, including blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, medical consultations, prescription medications, eye care, and vital health education, among other interventions. Patients who required more specialized medical attention were promptly referred for further treatment, with all associated costs covered by Babayemi.

Commenting on the outreach, Babayemi stressed that access to healthcare should never be considered a luxury, expressing significant concern over the deteriorating state of several primary healthcare centers within Osun. He remarked, “Healthcare should not become a luxury because our primary healthcare centres have been abandoned and left in deplorable conditions. The suffering of our people cannot continue while those entrusted with governance look away."

He concluded by stating, “This outreach demonstrates that the APC and its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, remain connected to the grassroots and genuinely place the health and welfare of the people above politics."
