INEC Closes Voter Registration Today, Urges Nigerians to Get PVCs

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a final reminder to all eligible Nigerians to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) as the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise comes to a close today, Sunday, July 26. This call to action is particularly important for those who have not yet registered or need to update their voter information, as it is a prerequisite for participating in the forthcoming 2027 general election. According to INEC, 'Time is running out, but there's still an opportunity to make your voice count.' The commission is urging citizens to either use its online CVR portal or visit any of its offices at the state or local government level to complete the registration process before the deadline. The CVR exercise, which has been ongoing in phases since August 2025, allows not only new registrations but also enables already registered voters to apply for transfers, make corrections to their personal details, or replace lost or damaged PVCs. By the end of the first phase in December, INEC had recorded 2,572,054 completed registrations. A subsequent phase from January 5 to April 17, 2026, saw an additional 3,748,704 registrations. After launching the third phase in May and extending the registration period by two weeks in July, INEC is now emphasizing the importance of meeting the deadline for all prospective voters, highlighting that voter registration is essential for those intending to vote in the 2027 general election.
