Hamzat's Campaign Gets Boost as Obanikoro Takes Reins as DG

A significant development has occurred in the Lagos State political landscape with the appointment of Musiliu Obanikoro, a former Minister of State for Defence and ex-Lagos senator, as the Director General of the campaign organisation of Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat. This move has been endorsed by the Lagos Diaspora for Hamzat 2027, a political support group comprising Lagosians residing in various parts of the world, including the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East. According to the group, Obanikoro's vast experience in politics and his deep understanding of Lagos politics make him an ideal candidate for the role. In a statement issued by the group's Convener, Ayodeji Tinubu, it was noted that Obanikoro's appointment is a strategic move that would strengthen the campaign's grassroots mobilisation and political structure ahead of the 2027 elections. Tinubu expressed confidence that Obanikoro would provide the necessary leadership to coordinate the campaign effectively, citing his long record in public service and politics as a significant asset. 'This appointment is indeed a classic case of a round peg in a round hole,' Tinubu said, highlighting Obanikoro's exceptional qualifications for the role. The group believes that Obanikoro's ability to build consensus and manage diverse political interests would help strengthen support for Hamzat within the All Progressives Congress. With Obanikoro at the helm, the campaign structure is expected to be strengthened and strategically positioned to deliver Hamzat's candidacy to victory at the polls. The diaspora group has pledged its support for the campaign, leveraging its international networks and professional resources to mobilise Lagosians both at home and abroad in support of Hamzat's political ambition.
