Abuja Set to Host Nigeria, Germany Bilateral Talks on Key Sectors

In a move to bolster diplomatic and economic ties, Nigeria and Germany are scheduled to engage in high-level bilateral consultations in Abuja. The meeting, set to take place on Wednesday, will be attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and her German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to a statement issued by the ministry's spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the consultations aim to strengthen cooperation between the two nations in areas such as trade, investment, renewable energy, climate action, security, education, and technology. Germany is one of Nigeria's largest trading partners in Europe, with a long history of cooperation in energy, agriculture, migration, healthcare, and security. The visit, announced by the ministry, is expected to further deepen the longstanding relations between both countries, which are anchored on mutual respect, shared democratic values, economic cooperation, and a commitment to promoting regional and global peace, security, stability, and sustainable development. The bilateral consultation will provide an opportunity for both governments to review existing agreements and explore new areas of collaboration, including expanding economic and commercial partnerships, attracting greater German investment into Nigeria's priority sectors, and enhancing cooperation in renewable energy and green industrialization. The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening relations with Germany, describing the European nation as a strategic partner. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed optimism that the visit of the German Foreign Minister will further strengthen the excellent relations between Nigeria and Germany, while reaffirming the shared resolve of both countries to address common global challenges through dialogue, partnership, and constructive engagement.
