Bashir El-Rufai Regrets Public Divorce Announcement, Apologizes for Social Media Post

The son of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, Bashir El-Rufai, has publicly apologized for announcing the end of his marriage on social media. Bashir made the apology on his X account on Saturday, June 13, 2026, stating that he had made a mistake by sharing personal matters on the platform. He wrote, 'I made a mistake a few weeks ago and I would like to apologize. Personal matters should be kept private.' Bashir also claimed to have apologized to his ex-wife, Halima Nwakaego Kazaure, daughter of former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Ibrahim Kazaure. The couple got married in 2020 and welcomed a set of twins the following year. However, their marriage came to an end, and Bashir announced the divorce on social media, citing 'Gen Z wahala' after his public admiration for another woman sparked reactions from users. He revealed that he had never wooed any woman and that Halima proposed to him. Bashir stated, 'I don’t toast, babes. Never have. It’s not even about bragging rights or pride. Neither have I ever used money to buy companionship. Sometimes it’s even years later that I discover one babe or another likes.' He added that he never asked a girl to marry him, and in his first marriage, Halima was the one who proposed.
