Obi Tasks Young Nigerians To Take Charge Of Nation Building

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has urged young Nigerians to take responsibility for rebuilding the country. In a recent post, Obi stated that it is unfair to expect Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, to shoulder the burden of nation-building at the age of 84. According to Obi, Adeboye has spent decades preaching peace, unity, and love, and his response to provocation has always been characterized by humility, restraint, wisdom, and grace. Obi warned young Nigerians against attempts by self-centered politicians to inflame ethnic and religious divisions, noting that such tactics emerged after the 2023 presidential election. He cautioned that national conversations that should have focused on governance, competence, and development were deliberately diverted towards tribal sentiments and suspicion. Obi further urged young Nigerians to resist manipulation and not allow anyone to recruit them into hatred or weaponize their ethnicity, faith, or admiration for respected leaders. He emphasized the need for citizens to refuse division, choose unity over hatred, and place the collective future above narrow interests. Meanwhile, the Founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, Mike Bamiloye, defended Adeboye, saying it was unreasonable to expect the RCCG leader to spearhead street protests against the government. Bamiloye noted that Adeboye had repeatedly spoken against insecurity and violence in Nigeria, but many bloggers deliberately ignored or failed to amplify his comments. The comments come amid heightened public concern over increasing violent attacks nationwide, including the abduction of Olaide John-Paul, sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and the attack on the convoy of Ben Nwankwo, Chief of Staff to Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo.
