Isbae U Explains Genesis of 'Curiosity Made Me Ask' Show

Popular content creator Adebayo Ridwan Abidemi, widely recognized as Isbae U, has shed light on the origins of his highly successful interview program, 'Curiosity Made Me Ask.' He stated his ambition was to develop a unique offering distinct from the prevalent skit-making scene.

This revelation came during an appearance on 'The Morayo Show' with media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown, a segment that premiered on YouTube this past Wednesday. According to Isbae U, he explored various entertainment avenues, such as acting, singing, and rapping, in his quest to discover his true calling. He ultimately concluded that he no longer wished to be merely 'part of the skit makers' and consequently sought a concept that would distinguish his work.

He recounted, “I was just finding myself. I was at that process. Before that, I was singing, before that rapping. I was just finding myself.” Detailing the emergence of 'Curiosity Made Me Ask,' Isbae U articulated his resolve to transcend mediocrity and innovate with distinct content. He shared, “There was a day I said to someone that I was done being mediocre, being average. I wanted to do something different. I didn’t want to just be considered part of them, part of the skit makers, one of them.”

His inspiration, he revealed, stemmed from American comedian Zach Galifianakis' interview series, 'Between Two Ferns.' Isbae U recalled, “I saw a show that I used to watch a long time ago. It’s called Between Two Ferns by Zach Galifianakis. So when I saw the show, I loved it. I thought, ‘Oh, this is something I can do.’ Even though the guy didn’t even do it as much as I’m doing it now.”

Leveraging this format, Isbae U has since conducted interviews with several notable figures, among them former President Olusegun Obasanjo, veteran actor Peter Edochie, and the iconic entertainer Charly Boy. Discussing the core concept guiding these interviews, he explained that the objective extends beyond routine celebrity questioning; rather, it aims to unveil an unfamiliar facet of these personalities to the audience. He emphasized, “The idea of Curiosity Made Me Ask is to show you another part of this celebrity you’ve not seen.”

While admitting to pre-interview jitters, especially with more senior and established individuals, he noted that these personalities had consistently offered a warm reception and urged him to remain authentic. The recent episode featuring former President Obasanjo garnered significant online buzz, marking him as one of the most recent high-profile guests on the program. When questioned about nervousness before such interviews, Isbae U responded, “Every time. Especially when it comes to people that are way older than me.”

Looking ahead, Isbae U expressed his intention to delve into other content formats, mentioning his behind-the-scenes work of scripting stories for fellow creators. He clarified, “A lot of people thought or think I have stopped creating and just doing Curiosity Made Me Ask. But low-key, there are people I write stories for, people I help with their stories.” He further indicated plans to produce additional content moving forward.
