Surulere Viral Video: Lagos Police Begin Inquiry into Officer-Youth Scuffle

The Lagos State Police Command has initiated an investigation into a widely circulated video depicting a physical altercation between law enforcement personnel and a group of young men within the Surulere area of the state. The footage, which gained significant traction across various social media platforms on Saturday, September 5, 2026, captures a tense confrontation.

While the specific circumstances leading up to this incident remain unclear, the video shows a young man and a police officer engaged in a forceful shoving match, each grasping the other's shirt.

Responding to the unfolding situation, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the commencement of an inquiry via the command's official X handle. Adebisi specifically urged all individuals involved in the controversial video to present themselves to aid the authorities.

"The Command has seen the video currently in circulation and has immediately commenced an investigation into the incident," Adebisi stated.

The PPRO further issued a directive: "The individuals featured in the video are hereby urged to report to the office of the Police Public Relations Officer at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, on Monday, at 11:00 a.m., to assist with the investigation and provide necessary clarification." This call aims to gather essential information and perspectives to thoroughly understand the incident.
