Comfort Ekwo's life took an unexpected turn when she began losing her sight at the tender age of eight. As her vision gradually faded, her family was forced to adjust to a new reality. In a conversation with Temitope Adetunji, Comfort shared her remarkable story of resilience and determination. Born with normal vision, Comfort's sight began to deteriorate when she was in primary school. She recalls struggling to see the board from the back of the class and eventually having to rely on her classmates to read out the lessons to her. As her condition worsened, Comfort's parents took her to various hospitals and churches in search of a cure. However, the medical professionals eventually advised them to focus on helping Comfort adapt to her new reality. Comfort's family has a history of visual impairment, with her younger sister also affected by the same condition. Despite the challenges she faced, Comfort refused to give up on her dreams. She attended a school for the blind in Abuja, where she learned to read and write in Braille. The experience not only helped her develop new skills but also boosted her confidence. Comfort went on to study Theatre and Film Arts at the University of Jos, pursuing her passion for acting. Although she faced skepticism and discouragement from some people, Comfort remained determined to succeed. She has worked as a remote host for a magazine and even started a rehabilitation centre to help other visually impaired individuals become independent. Comfort's story is a testament to the human spirit's ability to overcome adversity. Despite the obstacles she has faced, she remains committed to living a fulfilling life and inspiring others to do the same.
