The family of the renowned late comic actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has received a significant sum of ₦7.5 million in donations. This generous contribution follows a public appeal highlighting the family's challenges with unpaid rent, school fees, and difficult living conditions.

The update regarding the successful fundraising was shared on Friday by content creator King Mitchy via her Instagram page. This announcement came just two days after she first posted a video featuring Mr Ibu's widow and children, who were seen appealing for urgent assistance. King Mitchy expressed her gratitude, stating, "First of all, I sincerely want to thank everyone who donated. Together, we were able to raise ₦7.5 million for the family. God bless every single one of you."

According to King Mitchy, the funds will be specifically allocated to cover the children’s outstanding school fees, including the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) fees for the eldest daughter, which the family previously could not afford. Additionally, a portion of the donations will be used to settle the family’s rent. She reiterated, "This support will help pay the children’s school fees, including the eldest daughter’s WAEC fees, which they couldn’t afford. It will also help them with rent."

King Mitchy also revealed that following discussions about the family's situation, she advised Mr Ibu's widow to consider relocating to a more affordable apartment. She further indicated plans to release more segments of their conversation and address various questions raised by Nigerians concerning the family’s circumstances.

Clarifying her involvement, King Mitchy stated, "I only met her two days ago after a neighbour called me to help. I knew nothing about the family’s situation before then. My only focus from the beginning has been to make sure the children get the help they deserve." This development comes shortly after a video circulated online, where Mr Ibu’s widow disclosed that her family had been living without electricity for approximately two months due to unpaid bills. She also mentioned fetching water from a well and that their children had stopped attending school because of outstanding fees.

Mr Ibu passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62, after a prolonged battle with illness.
