In a bid to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment, the Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to intensifying advocacy and engagement on proper waste disposal across the state. The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made this known during an interview in the Alimosho Local Government Area, specifically at Shasa-Orisumbare and Dopemu Bridge in Akowonjo, as well as in the Apapa Local Government Area. Wahab expressed optimism that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, which takes place between 6:30 am and 8:30 am, would yield better results over time as residents become more accustomed to participating. He also acknowledged the role of Private Sector Participants (PSP) operators in the state, particularly in the Alimosho area, and assured that the Lagos Waste Management Authority would continue to work closely with them to address any challenges. The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, was also present in Alimosho, where she actively participated in the cleaning exercise alongside school children, waste management officials, and other dignitaries. Meanwhile, the Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, led a team to Apapa to monitor and participate in the environmental sanitation exercise, ensuring compliance with the state's regulations. The government's efforts aim to foster a culture of cleanliness and responsibility among Lagosians, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly state.
