Man Apprehended in Niger State Following Motorcyclist's Gruesome Beheading

Authorities in Niger State have confirmed the arrest of Mohammed Ibrahim, a primary suspect implicated in the alleged culpable homicide of Shehu Mohammed, a commercial motorcyclist. This development was revealed by SP Wasiu Abiodun, the command's spokesperson, in an official statement issued on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

Operatives from the Maikunkele Division, collaborating with the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), successfully apprehended Mohammed Ibrahim, also known as Manga, a 25-year-old resident of Gusasse area, Bosso LGA. He was taken into custody on October 1, 2026, at approximately 2:00 pm, in connection with charges of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, and motorcycle theft.

Preliminary investigations indicate that on September 30, 2026, around 5:00 p.m., the suspect engaged the services of Shehu Mohammed, a 23-year-old commercial motorcyclist from Pai Village, Bosso LGA. Ibrahim reportedly hired Mohammed to convey him from Beji to Garatu village, claiming he intended to visit friends there.

Further inquiries revealed that while the duo was returning from Garatu Village, at about midnight, along the Gidan-Kwano/Maikunkele Road, Ibrahim allegedly conspired with two accomplices, identified only as Risku and another individual, who are currently at large. Together, they attacked the motorcyclist, brutally beheading him before absconding with his brand-new Bajaj motorcycle.

During interrogation, Mohammed Ibrahim confessed to his involvement in the heinous crime. The stolen motorcycle and a cutlass, believed to be the murder weapon, were subsequently recovered from him. The suspect is presently in police custody at the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) as investigations continue.

Efforts are intensifying to apprehend the remaining fleeing accomplices and ensure they are brought to justice. Upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation, Mohammed Ibrahim will face charges before a competent court of jurisdiction.
