Florida Mother Faces Neglect Charges After Abandoning Four Kids for Cruise

A 29-year-old woman from North Miami Beach, Florida, Nathalie Belizaire, has been apprehended and charged with four counts of child neglect without causing significant bodily harm. The charges stem from allegations that she left her four young children, including a two-month-old infant, unsupervised at home while she embarked on a three-day cruise.

According to reports from the North Miami Beach police, the father of Belizaire's two-month-old child became suspicious after seeing a post on her WhatsApp story last Thursday, which appeared to show a cruise ticket purchase. He reportedly spoke with Belizaire that same day, and she informed him that she intended to drop the children off with their great-grandmother.

However, when the father visited Belizaire’s apartment on Saturday evening, he observed the television on through the blinds and heard the children's voices from inside. This prompted him to contact 911. Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units swiftly responded to the scene, where they were forced to gain entry into the residence. Inside, all four minor children were discovered hiding together in a bathroom, completely without adult supervision. Body camera footage captured officers guiding the children out of the apartment.

Further investigation revealed that the children’s great-grandmother confirmed Belizaire had mentioned going out of town and dropping off the kids, but she never brought them over. Additionally, Belizaire's brother informed the police that his sister had sent him a text message around 8 p.m. on Saturday, instructing him to check on her children. Police attempts to reach Belizaire proved unsuccessful.

Authorities later confirmed that Belizaire had purchased a three-day ticket for a cruise to the Bahamas aboard the Carnival Conquest, with a scheduled departure date of September 25. The arrest report explicitly stated that Belizaire "left all four minor children, including a two-month-old infant and a two-year-old child, inside the residence without adult supervision while the defendant traveled out of town aboard a Carnival Conquest cruise ship."

Belizaire was taken into custody on Monday upon her disembarkation at PortMiami by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, who subsequently handed her over to the North Miami Beach police. She reportedly declined to make a statement and exercised her right to remain silent.

The arrest report concluded, "Based on the totality of the circumstances and evidence obtained during the investigation, sufficient probable cause existed to establish that the defendant failed to provide the necessary care and supervision for the four minor children, thereby exposing them to a substantial risk of harm."

During her bond court appearance on Tuesday, Judge Mindy Glazer set Belizaire’s bond at $10,000 and issued an order for her to stay away from the children. Judge Glazer expressed her dismay, stating, “You cannot make this up. It says she went on a cruise and left her children home alone. These poor kids, four of them, were home alone for three days. ... I’m just grateful nothing worse happened to these kids.”

Belizaire's attorney stated that she denies the allegations, to which Judge Glazer retorted, “Of course she does. One baby, the baby was born in July of this year. Who leaves a baby alone like that?” Authorities have confirmed that the children are now safe and have been placed in foster care.
