Tanzanian Couple Busted for Drugging, Robbing Bus Passengers in Kenya

A Tanzanian couple, suspected of operating a sophisticated scheme to drug and rob unsuspecting bus passengers, has been apprehended in Mombasa, Kenya. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Wednesday, September 39, 2026.

The DCI's announcement detailed that the most recent incident linked to the syndicate occurred on September 18, 2026. A passenger travelling on a Dreamline bus from Nairobi to Mombasa reportedly fell victim after a fellow passenger, seated beside him, allegedly administered a stupefying substance. The victim lost consciousness and later awoke in a hospital bed at Tudor Sub-County Hospital, only to discover his bag and all personal effects had vanished.

Following this report, detectives from Makupa Police Station immediately launched an investigation. Their forensic trail led them to Magongo, where they successfully located and arrested the two suspects: 52-year-old Pius Paskale Frugenze and his 47-year-old wife, Redempta Revelian Kuleta, both identified as Tanzanian nationals.

A subsequent search of their residence yielded significant evidence, including the complainant's HP laptop and an iPhone 17 Pro Max, providing a crucial breakthrough. Investigators also recovered a collection of other items believed to be stolen, such as assorted mobile phones, 20 phone chargers, 10 wristwatches, 20 wallets, and various clothing items. Additionally, substances suspected to be stupefying drugs were found at the location.

The couple is currently in police custody, undergoing processing, and is expected to be arraigned in court soon. The recovered items have been seized and will be presented as exhibits in the ongoing legal proceedings.
