Bauchi Housewife Confesses to Killing Co-Wife Over Dream Encounters

A 35-year-old woman from Bauchi, Hauwau Haruna, has admitted to causing the death of her co-wife, Jamila Adamu. Haruna claims that Jamila repeatedly appeared in her dreams, making attempts on her life and that of her children.

According to a report by LIB, the Bauchi State Police Command apprehended Hauwau on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in connection with Jamila’s death, which was allegedly carried out using a pestle. During an interview conducted at the Bauchi State Police Command headquarters, Hauwau expressed remorse for her actions, noting that she had cohabited with Jamila for over 16 years.

“I was arrested and brought to the Bauchi State Police Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for committing a murder,” she stated. Elaborating on the events leading to the incident, she recounted how Jamila had been a recurring figure in her dreams, constantly trying to harm her and her children. “She (Jamila) was appearing to me in my dreams attempting to k!ll me and my children. Although the story is a long one, she came yesterday (Sunday). The incidents in the dream have been happening for a while,” Hauwau explained.

She further described that on the day of the incident, Jamila manifested as a “cat” in her dream. “She came yesterday in the form of a cat and I woke up in the dream and Allah helped me to pick up my food flask on my side and struck at the cat and she went out of my room,” Hauwau narrated.

As she pursued the cat, it allegedly transformed into her co-wife, who was standing outside her room. “Already beside my room there was a pestle used by children to break palm fruits, so I quickly took up the pestle and started hitting her with the pestle, telling her that you cannot k!ll me because you have continued to harm me. Before you k!ll me, I will k!ll you,” she recounted. Hauwau added, “I continued hitting her with the pestle until she fell to the ground.”

Following the act, Hauwau confessed to being disoriented. She then rushed back into her room, collected her newborn twins, and fled the residence. “I strapped one to my back and held the other child in my hand. I rushed out of the house and started running to look for a commercial motorcycle (Okada),” she said.

She managed to get an Okada rider and proceeded to her parents’ home. Hauwau initially intended to turn herself in at the estate police station but was deterred by the “scared of mob action and fear of them attacking me alongside my twins.” Her primary goal was to ensure the safety of her newborn twins by leaving them with her mother. Hauwau informed her mother of her intention to surrender to the police, but her mother dissuaded her and instead contacted her elder brother.

When asked if she had previously informed her husband about the disturbing dreams, Hauwau revealed that he had dismissed her concerns. Efforts to obtain a statement from her husband, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim (Askiya), were unsuccessful.
